Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Turvo is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join their production platform team. This role focuses on managing incidents, overseeing releases, improving operability alongside engineering teams, and developing automation to reduce manual work and enhance system visibility. The technology stack includes AWS, Java, MySQL, MongoDB, OpenSearch, RabbitMQ, and increasing use of Amazon ECS within the existing infrastructure. The position requires hands-on involvement in maintaining a highly available and scalable Transportation Management System (TMS) that connects freight brokers, 3PLs, shippers, and carriers to streamline supply chain operations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage on-call duties and incident response by triaging alerts, investigating issues across applications and infrastructure (including Java services and databases), leading or co-leading outage responses, and driving root cause analysis (RCA) with durable fixes.
- Collaborate closely with feature teams to support production releases and maintenance windows, including coordination, validation, and monitoring activities. Influence system design to improve observability, scalability, resiliency, and security.
- Support the reliability and operational management of Amazon ECS services, including deployments, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Proactively maintain and enhance AWS and managed services such as RDS, ElastiCache, and OpenSearch. Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and cost optimization efforts.
- Develop Python-based tooling and automation for scheduled jobs, continuous integration (CI) pipelines, and reporting. Create and maintain runbooks for recurring operational tasks.
- Provide technical leadership by mentoring peers and acting as a lead during the absence of senior staff.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 6 to 9 years of experience managing large-scale Linux/UNIX production systems, with at least 3 years in an SRE, platform engineering, or similar role involving direct production ownership.
- Strong proficiency in Python and scripting for production tooling, with the ability to read and debug Java services in a live environment.
- Experience working with AWS at scale, including MySQL and MongoDB databases, and debugging distributed server applications.
- Hands-on expertise with observability tools covering metrics, logs, tracing, and application performance monitoring (APM) for monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting in production.
- Demonstrated skills in monitoring, alerting, and performance troubleshooting, coupled with clear and effective communication during incidents and in documentation.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a distributed, fast-paced engineering organization.
