Senior Software Engineer

Protolabs is seeking a seasoned Senior Backend Software Engineer to join the MP Marketplace team within Protolabs Network. This role focuses on developing and enhancing the backend technology that powers a global manufacturing marketplace. You will be responsible for building scalable systems that manage the entire order lifecycle, including supplier matching, production workflows, quality control, and delivery. Key Responsibilities

Lead End-to-End Development: Design, develop, and deliver backend features while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to address complex marketplace challenges.

Build Scalable Backend Systems: Create robust APIs and backend services that support the full order lifecycle, from supplier matching to final delivery.

Drive Technical Excellence: Influence architectural decisions and continuously enhance the performance, scalability, and reliability of the platform.

Mentor and Collaborate: Provide guidance to fellow engineers, share technical expertise, and promote best engineering practices within the team.

Enhance Platform Capabilities: Work with event-driven systems to develop solutions that accommodate increasing order volumes and evolving business needs.

Ensure Product Quality: Improve system quality through comprehensive testing, monitoring, observability, and adherence to engineering best practices.

Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with the Backend Engineering Guild to establish standards and drive continuous improvements in backend systems.

Required Qualifications

- Over 7 years of experience in developing web applications and backend services.

- Strong proficiency in Python, with hands-on experience designing, developing, testing, and monitoring production-grade systems.

- Practical experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.

- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, along with CI/CD environments.

- Proven track record of leading technical projects, making architectural decisions, and mentoring engineers.

- Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating effectively with Product Managers, Designers, and other stakeholders.

- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with marketplace platforms or operational systems is a plus. A solid understanding of event-driven architectures and familiarity with Angular and TypeScript are also advantageous.
