Senior Software Engineer - Node.js

We are seeking a skilled full-stack software engineer to architect, build, and scale web applications using modern technologies such as Node.js, Express/NestJS, MongoDB, React/Next.js, and Angular. The ideal candidate will lead feature development from initial design through deployment and production support, collaborate closely with product and platform teams, and contribute to both frontend and backend systems. This role involves working with cloud services, containerization, and integrating AI-powered features to enhance product capabilities. Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor junior engineers are essential, as is a proactive approach to ownership and delivery in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:
- Architect, develop, and scale full-stack web applications using Node.js, Express/NestJS, MongoDB, React/Next.js, and Angular frameworks.
- Lead end-to-end feature development, including technical design, estimation, deployment, and ongoing production support.
- Design and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs, including Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) layers, collaborating with product and platform teams to define API contracts.
- Build and manage shared component libraries and design systems using tools like Tailwind and Storybook, translating Figma designs into pixel-perfect, accessible user interfaces.
- Deploy and operate services on cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, utilizing Docker, Kubernetes, serverless functions, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Integrate large language model (LLM)-powered features, including AI assistants, semantic search, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, in partnership with AI/ML engineers.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot to accelerate delivery while maintaining high code quality.
- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and providing technical direction.
- Communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, and progress clearly to stakeholders, clients, and leadership teams.
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident response to ensure production system reliability.

Required Qualifications:
- 3 to 6 years of professional software engineering experience with strong full-stack development skills.
- Expert proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, along with solid knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and responsive design principles.
- Production experience with Node.js frameworks (Express or NestJS) and MongoDB, plus familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Strong hands-on experience with React (Next.js preferred) and working knowledge of Angular.
- Deep understanding of system design concepts, microservices architecture, caching mechanisms (e.g., Redis), and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS).
- Practical cloud experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, including containerization using Docker.
- Strong testing discipline, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing using tools like Jest, Playwright, or Cypress.
- Knowledge of authentication and security standards such as OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, and OWASP best practices.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining and defending technical decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven leadership abilities in driving development efforts, owning deliverables, and meeting deadlines.
- Self-motivated with strong ownership, prioritization skills, and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits:
- Experience with React Native or Expo for shipping mobile applications to the App Store and Google Play.
- Familiarity with integrating LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini) or building retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and vector search features (Pinecone, pgvector).
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CDK, and observability platforms like Datadog, Grafana, or Sentry.
- Experience working with WebSockets and real-time systems.
- Cloud certifications from AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Background in startup environments, SaaS product development, or client-facing consulting roles.
- Contributions to open-source projects or a strong public GitHub portfolio.
