Central to Careem’s engineering efforts is the NextGen Programme, which aims to nurture the next generation of engineers through a structured learning path focused on Clean Code, SOLID design principles, and scalable system architecture. This comprehensive program spans all engineering domains, including Backend, Frontend, Web, Mobile, Data Analysis, MLOps, Infrastructure, Cyber Security, and QA. Careem is looking for a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead a motivated team of engineers and graduates starting their software engineering careers. This role is crucial in guiding technical growth, mentoring through real-world projects, and promoting engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team within the NextGen Programme, ensuring delivery of high-quality engineering solutions and strong foundational skills.
- Oversee the design, development, and deployment of scalable distributed systems built on microservices architecture.
- Mentor engineers on best practices such as Clean Code, SOLID principles, and test-driven development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve technical challenges and improve engineering processes.
- Work closely with leadership to define the technical roadmap and continuously enhance the programme structure.
- Foster a team culture focused on learning, accountability, and engineering excellence.
- Provide regular feedback, coaching, and support to maintain active engagement with the team.
Required Qualifications:
- More than 10 years of software development experience, including at least 3 years in a management or senior engineering team lead role.
- Strong foundation in software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, software design, and object-oriented programming.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Go, Python, or .NET.
- Extensive experience building scalable distributed systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven leadership skills with a passion for talent development and team building.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and improve technical development processes.
