Senior Technical Writer

We are seeking a Senior Technical Writer to lead and enhance the developer documentation experience for a rapidly expanding developer platform. This role focuses on public REST APIs, embedded integrations, webhooks, SDKs, and AI-enabled developer tools. The ideal candidate will be a proactive technical writer capable of independently grasping complex technical concepts, collaborating closely with engineers and product managers, and producing clear, actionable documentation that helps developers integrate efficiently and effectively. This position involves ownership of documentation strategy, information architecture, quality standards, and the overall developer experience.

Key Responsibilities

- Own the information architecture, content strategy, and quality standards for the developer portal, including guides, API references, recipes, and release notes.
- Audit and enhance existing documentation by consolidating duplicates, identifying gaps, retiring outdated content, and streamlining the path to a developer’s first API call.
- Write detailed integration guides for complex fintech workflows such as AP/AR payments and payment states, vendor onboarding and BILL Network, KYC/KYB compliance and verification, webhooks, and partner/embedded integrations.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to document new product launches, including OAuth, BILL Elements, MCP, and AI-related developer experiences.
- Create documentation from PRDs, design documents, Figma files, API specifications, and other technical resources.
- Maintain alignment and currency of OpenAPI specifications, Postman collections, code samples, and documentation.
- Optimize documentation for AI-assisted development by producing structured content, Markdown output, and formats consumable by AI assistants and agents.
- Develop and maintain partner-facing FAQs and self-service documentation to reduce repetitive support requests.
- Establish and uphold style guides, templates, documentation standards, and docs-as-code workflows.
- Work independently with engineers and product managers to gather technical details, resolve ambiguities, and ensure documentation accuracy.
- Prioritize documentation projects based on developer needs, product priorities, and business impact.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in technical writing, with at least 4 years focused on documenting public REST APIs for external developers.
- Proven track record of owning and improving developer portals or technical documentation platforms.
- Strong understanding of APIs, with the ability to read code and execute API calls independently.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as cURL, Postman, JSON, and proficiency in at least one programming language like JavaScript or Python.
- Experience working with OpenAPI specifications.
- Familiarity with documentation platforms such as ReadMe, Mintlify, Docusaurus, or similar tools.
- Experience with Git-based documentation workflows.
- Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with engineers, product managers, and other technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work autonomously, ask insightful questions, and challenge unclear or incomplete requirements.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills to manage multiple documentation initiatives simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in fintech, payments, financial technology, or embedded finance sectors.
- Experience documenting SDKs, webhooks, or embeddable UI components.
- Familiarity with AI tools integrated into technical writing workflows.
- Experience creating documentation optimized for AI assistants, agents, or large language model consumption.
- Knowledge of developer experience (DX) metrics or content analytics.
- Understanding of metrics such as time to first API call and documentation-driven support ticket deflection.
