Senior WordPress Engineer

Xeves is developing ArtisansWP, a specialized brand focused on delivering high-performance WordPress infrastructure, custom plugin architecture, and advanced AI integrations. We prioritize building scalable, tailor-made software solutions from the ground up, avoiding reliance on page builders or pre-made themes. We are seeking a talented Backend Engineer who is passionate about clean PHP coding, modern software architecture, and integrating WordPress with cutting-edge AI and API technologies.

Key Responsibilities
Architect Custom Solutions: Design and develop custom plugins, core features, and framework-level components from scratch to meet unique project requirements.
Integrate AI & APIs: Connect WordPress backends with complex REST APIs, SaaS platforms, and AI models such as large language models (LLMs) and OpenRouter APIs.
Optimize Performance: Enhance database queries, caching mechanisms, and security protocols to ensure robust performance in high-traffic environments.
Maintain Code Quality: Produce clean, maintainable code following modern development standards, utilizing Git-based CI/CD workflows for version control and deployment.

Required Qualifications
Deep PHP & OOP Mastery: Strong expertise in modern PHP (version 8.2 or higher) and Object-Oriented Programming principles.
WordPress Core Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of WordPress Core APIs, including Hooks, Actions, Filters, REST API, and WPDB.
Core Web Stack: Proficiency in modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3 to support full-stack development needs.
Tooling & Databases: Experience working with Git, RESTful APIs, and optimizing SQL queries for database efficiency.
Bespoke Development Mindset: Ability to work directly with code without depending on visual site builders such as Elementor or Divi, emphasizing custom development.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience working with AI APIs or large language model pipelines is highly desirable. Familiarity with Headless WordPress setups or modern JavaScript frameworks like Next.js and Node.js will be considered an advantage.
