Server Management - Consultant

With 3 to 6 years of experience in server management and administration, this role focuses on the installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of physical and virtual servers, primarily within Linux environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in SUSE Linux operations, including patching, upgrades, and cluster management using SUSE Pacemaker. Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, GCP, or AWS is essential, along with a solid understanding of ITIL best practices for incident, change, and problem management. The role requires hands-on skills in DNS configuration, SAMBA, AUTOFS, CIFS, FTP, user permissions, and LVM management. A passion for SAP and the ability to translate business needs into IT solutions are important, as is the willingness to travel for project-specific assignments.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide third-level technical support aligned with customer SLAs, ensuring timely and effective resolution of complex issues.
- Collaborate with customers to recommend and implement automation solutions for repetitive tasks.
- Manage daily compute operations, including handling events, incidents, service requests, change requests, and root cause analyses, all in accordance with ITIL processes.
- Support second-level technical teams during upgrade or patch activities, troubleshooting errors as they arise.
- Oversee server installation, maintenance, monitoring, decommissioning, and perform special configurations beyond automated procedures.
- Manage patch deployment using zypper and resolve any patch-related issues.
- Administer LVM, including extension, resizing, and routine maintenance commands.
- Diagnose and resolve GRUB bootloader issues and configuration problems.
- Conduct root cause analysis for customer incidents to prevent recurrence.
- Document services and tasks thoroughly, perform testing, ensure quality management, and facilitate knowledge transfer.
- Assist second-level support with complex technical challenges.
- Participate in an on-call rotation, which may include weekends and public holidays, depending on project requirements.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- 3 to 6 years of experience in server management and Linux administration.
- Proficiency in Linux OS operations, specifically SUSE Linux, including installation, patching, upgrades, and cluster troubleshooting.
- Experience with at least one cloud platform such as Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or AWS.
- Knowledge of SUSE Pacemaker cluster setup and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of DNS configuration for forward and reverse lookup zones.
- Experience configuring and administering SAMBA, AUTOFS, CIFS, FTP, user accounts, and permissions.
- Familiarity with ITIL best practices for incident, change, and problem management.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
- Ability to transfer technical knowledge effectively and stay updated on industry trends.
- Team player mindset with a willingness to travel as required.
- Passion for SAP technologies and eagerness to learn and grow within the SAP ecosystem.
