Short Term Technical Assistant (STTA) - Research & Insights

This position is based within the Development Impact Department at Karandaaz Pakistan, reporting directly to the Head of Development Impact. Karandaaz Pakistan is a Section 42 non-profit organization registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan. Supported by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and funded by the Gates Foundation, Karandaaz aims to foster inclusive, green, and sustainable growth by strengthening financial and digital ecosystems through investments, innovations, and strategic partnerships. The role of STTA – Research & Insights is a temporary assignment designed to provide advanced analytical and research support. The ideal candidate will have strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, with the ability to transform complex datasets and sector-level policy issues into clear, actionable insights and compelling visual narratives.

Key Responsibilities

Economic & Policy Research:
- Conduct rigorous quantitative and qualitative research on macroeconomic, sector-specific, and policy-related topics.
- Synthesize findings from multiple sources into concise, actionable insights.
- Prepare high-quality policy briefs, research notes, technical summaries, slide decks, and executive briefings.

Data Analysis & Visualization:
- Clean, manage, and analyze complex datasets using advanced analytical methods.
- Identify trends, patterns, and impact metrics aligned with Karandaaz’s development goals.
- Design engaging data visualizations, dashboards, infographics, and graphical outputs using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Datawrapper, or Flourish Studio.
- Support the development of data-driven presentations for internal leadership and external stakeholders.

Knowledge Management & Quality Assurance:
- Translate technical economic concepts into accessible visual and written content for diverse audiences.
- Ensure accuracy, methodological rigor, and consistency across all research deliverables.
- Organize and archive datasets, research references, and output repositories systematically.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Development Economics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in economic research, policy analysis, or analytical consulting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced proficiency in data analysis software such as Excel and Stata.
- Expertise in data visualization tools including Power BI, Tableau, Datawrapper, or Flourish.
- Exceptional written and visual communication skills, with a proven ability to convert raw data into policy-relevant narratives.

Portfolio Submission Requirement:
Applicants are required to submit a portfolio showcasing prior analytical work, whether published or unpublished. The portfolio should demonstrate strengths in data visualization, graphic charting, dashboards, research briefs, and data-driven presentation decks.

Tenure:
This is a contractual position for a duration of 7 months based in Islamabad.
