Zyte is a global leader in solving complex web data challenges at scale. Our remote-first team of over 260 professionals across 33 countries is passionate about delivering clean, reliable web data to empower organizations ranging from startups to global enterprises. We focus on engineering excellence, tackling real-world distributed systems problems, and maintaining strong product ownership while fostering a culture of innovation and diversity.

Key Responsibilities
- Scale the data plane by evolving the command-and-control (CNC) service into a horizontally scalable fetch scheduler that handles 50–100 million requests daily, respecting geo-routing, site cooldowns, quotas, and avoiding detectable patterns.
- Design and build the Fleet Manager control plane, including inventory, health monitoring, configuration management, software rollout, provider adapters, reconciler, rollout controller, and metrics export to BigQuery.
- Operate and enhance the CONNECT proxy gateway and session handling on the Edge platform, collaborating with API teams on IP reputation, proxy leases, and request scheduling to integrate Edge seamlessly into the platform’s proxy infrastructure.
- Engineer robust networking solutions involving mTLS gRPC communication between control plane and peers, long-polling and streaming over unreliable residential links, NAT traversal, and accurate bandwidth accounting under contention.
- Define and maintain service level objectives (SLOs) for availability, success rates, and latency of the Edge route; develop metrics to monitor peer count, drop-off rates, and bandwidth usage; and safely conduct blue/green rollouts of CNC and peer nodes.
- Share production ownership by participating in on-call rotations, leading incident post-mortems, and driving operational improvements based on lessons learned.
- Contribute to raising engineering standards by authoring Requests for Discussion (RFDs) on scheduling, fleet management, and failover; reviewing squad designs; and applying distributed systems principles such as consistency, backpressure, idempotency, and blast radius control.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of professional Rust development experience, including end-to-end ownership of production services.
- Strong background in distributed systems, with hands-on experience designing and operating schedulers, control planes, or stateful services at scale, and a deep understanding of consistency, partitions, backpressure, and idempotency.
- Expertise in networking protocols including TCP, TLS, HTTP (at handshake and packet levels), gRPC, and managing long-lived connections over NAT and lossy networks.
- Experience building or operating forward proxies, proxy gateways, or residential/ISP proxy infrastructure, with knowledge of IP reputation, session stickiness, and pool health management.
- Proven ops and reliability skills, including defining SLOs, building observability tooling, leading production incident responses, and comfort with on-call duties.
- Cross-platform Rust development experience targeting Windows, Linux, and Android, including familiarity with Foreign Function Interface (FFI) boundaries.
- Excellent written communication skills suited for a globally distributed, remote-first team.
- A curious and analytical problem solver who focuses on diagnosing root causes of system behavior under load.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience shipping Rust applications on mobile or desktop platforms (Android, Windows, macOS) or integrating Rust with C/C++ via FFI.
- Background in fleet or device management systems, including reconcilers, rollout controllers, IoT, or volunteer computing infrastructures.
- Knowledge of anti-bot techniques and fingerprinting methods involving TLS, HTTP, and IP signals.
- Familiarity with large-scale web scraping and crawling challenges.
- Contributions to open source projects related to Rust, networking, or distributed systems.
