The NextGen Programme at Careem is designed to nurture engineering talent by instilling best practices such as Clean Code, SOLID design principles, and robust system architecture. This initiative covers various engineering disciplines including Backend, Frontend, Web, Mobile, Data Analysis, MLOps, Infrastructure, Cyber Security, and QA. We are currently looking for Software Engineers who are passionate about distributed backend systems, scalability, and continuous improvement. Successful candidates will collaborate with top-tier professionals, work with cutting-edge technologies, and contribute to large-scale distributed systems that power everything from user interactions to payment processing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain distributed backend systems that meet high standards for functionality, scalability, and reliability in a fast-growing environment.
- Uphold rigorous code quality, maintainability, readability, and comprehensive testing across all features and systems.
- Work closely with engineers, product owners, and designers to address complex challenges and deliver effective solutions across the platform.
- Actively participate as a key member of an autonomous, cross-functional agile team.
- Deliver high-quality, production-ready code with a strong focus on excellence and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- 2 to 4 years of professional experience in software engineering.
- Solid understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and produce clean, maintainable code.
- Strong communication skills, capable of clearly explaining technical challenges and solutions.
- Flexibility to work with loosely defined problems and adapt to rapidly changing requirements.
- A passion for learning new technologies and contributing to products with large-scale impact.
- Keen attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality work.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits:
- Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Familiarity with clean code principles and software design patterns.
- Knowledge of test-driven development (TDD) practices.
