Software Engineer Java POS

We are seeking experienced Java Engineers with 5 to 10 years of expertise in delivering high-quality software solutions. Our client is in the process of modernizing their enterprise Retail Point-of-Sale (POS) platform, and we require engineers who possess strong Java skills combined with hands-on experience in artificial intelligence (AI). Candidates with prior exposure to enterprise Retail POS systems are highly preferred. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to meet expectations aligned with their experience level and contribute effectively to the modernization efforts.

Key Responsibilities

- Write clean, consistent, and elegant code to develop scalable and reliable systems.
- Contribute to the modernization of the existing POS platform by migrating legacy functionality to cloud-native services.
- Build and integrate AI-enabled features within POS and retail workflows.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, and documentation while ensuring code quality, security, and maintainability.
- Drive adoption of advanced processes such as continuous integration, continuous delivery, cloud migration, and test-driven development within the team.
- Manage defect tracking, source code control, and software release systems to maintain high-quality software releases.
- Participate in peer code reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve code quality.
- Collaborate as part of a SCRUM team in the design and development process.
- Support transition from application development to production support to ensure timely and efficient issue resolution.
- Lead build and release planning, including deployment of applications to production environments.
- Assist development management with planning, analysis, and defining high-level software strategies and solutions.
- Maintain a strong understanding of enterprise retail business systems and the retail industry landscape.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, particularly AI, and apply relevant innovations to architectural needs.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies and industry best practices in all developed applications.
- Collaborate with business, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver enhancements and bug fixes for production systems.
- Emphasize building system metrics and provide visibility on uptime and performance through real-time alerting, reporting, and dashboards.

Required Qualifications

- 5 to 10 years of experience in analyzing, designing, coding, testing, installing, and maintaining complex software programs.
- Proven experience with enterprise Retail POS systems.
- Strong proficiency in Java and the Spring Boot framework, including solid understanding of object-oriented design principles and application design patterns.
- Hands-on experience building or integrating AI/ML or large language model (LLM)-based features into applications.
- Practical experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Experience working with NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Azure Cosmos DB.
- Experience with transactional relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MariaDB.
- Working knowledge of Apache Kafka and event-driven messaging architectures.
- Expertise in designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices using Spring Boot, with experience consuming RESTful APIs and handling JSON and XML payloads for REST and SOAP integrations.
- Ability to work effectively within diverse, collaborative, cross-functional teams.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Highly self-motivated and proactive in driving tasks to completion.

Preferred Qualifications and Additional Skills

- Familiarity with other programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, C#, and front-end frameworks like React is a plus.
- Experience with containerization technologies including Kubernetes and Docker.
- Knowledge of infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing tools.
