Software Engineer

Meridian Review Group is seeking a Software Engineer to join its expanding international team. This role offers the opportunity to build innovative technology supporting a growing network of independent business, markets, and economic publications. The position can be fully remote or based in London, Prague, or Costa Rica, with flexible arrangements as either a full-time role or a long-term contract. Compensation ranges from $9,000 to $12,000 per month, depending on experience and responsibility. The ideal candidate will contribute to building scalable systems that support multiple publications, structured data products, and research tools, all designed to serve millions of readers monthly.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineering, editorial, and leadership teams to identify and develop new products and features.
- Enhance the shared Meridian publishing platform to support multiple brands and large-scale content.
- Build infrastructure enabling efficient launch of new publications and research products.
- Develop tools for journalists, editors, and researchers to streamline workflows and data management.
- Create and maintain structured databases for companies, executives, industries, and economic data.
- Integrate external financial, market, and economic datasets into Meridian’s systems.
- Build APIs, data pipelines, ranking/index products, and original research systems.
- Improve article discovery, recommendation engines, search functionality, and technical SEO.
- Automate publishing workflows, data freshness monitoring, and editorial processes.
- Develop internal monitoring tools and analytics to understand user interaction and system performance.
- Experiment with AI-assisted research, classification, and editorial tooling.
- Contribute to building future subscription, premium research, advertising, and commercial infrastructure.
- Design systems with scalability, performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency to support up to 10 million monthly visitors.

Required Qualifications
- Proven experience building production software used by real users.
- Comfort working across frontend and backend technologies.
- Ability to quickly understand and work within unfamiliar codebases.
- Strong focus on performance, reliability, maintainability, and scalability.
- Solid understanding of databases, structured data, and information architecture.
- Problem-solving skills for ambiguous challenges beyond predefined tasks.
- Ability to communicate technical trade-offs clearly to non-engineers.
- Interest in publishing, markets, research, data, or information products.
- Awareness that SEO is both an engineering and marketing challenge.
- Experience working asynchronously within distributed international teams.
- Willingness to experiment while avoiding unnecessary complexity.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
