FinSurgents, a consultancy specializing in embedded finance and fintech solutions, is seeking a Software Quality Assurance Engineer to join their Lahore-based team on a hybrid work schedule. This full-time role is ideal for candidates with 2 to 4 years of solid testing experience who are eager to grow their expertise in fintech. The position involves testing internal products and client implementations such as loan management systems, payment integrations, back-office tools, and mobile applications. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and consultants, contributing to the development of a company-wide test automation framework. While prior lending knowledge is not required, strong testing fundamentals, attention to detail with numbers, and a willingness to learn the fintech domain are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Review requirements and technical specifications early in the development cycle to identify and raise any gaps.
- Design comprehensive test plans and write detailed test cases covering functionality, edge cases, and usability.
- Conduct end-to-end testing of REST APIs, including authentication, error handling, and handling of duplicate or retried requests.
- Verify loan calculations such as repayment schedules, markup, and penalties against reference models developed with engineering teams.
- Develop and maintain automated tests using Python, pytest, Playwright, and Maestro.
- Utilize SQL to validate data integrity, balances, and reports against underlying transactions.
- Test scheduled jobs and event-driven workflows, including nightly calculations and message queue processing.
- Perform testing on back-office web applications (approvals, user roles, audit trails) and mobile apps on real devices.
- Execute regression and integration testing throughout release cycles and support client User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Report defects with clear, actionable details to enable developers to resolve issues without additional clarification.
- Maintain up-to-date test documentation and contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes as the team expands.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, Fintech, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 to 4 years of experience in software quality assurance, encompassing both manual and automated testing.
- Hands-on experience with API testing tools such as Postman or similar.
- Proficiency in test automation frameworks and comfort writing automation scripts in Python, or experience in another language with readiness to transition.
- Strong SQL skills, including the ability to perform joins, aggregations, and data validation.
- Comfort working with numbers and spreadsheets, with the ability to methodically verify calculations.
- Sufficient understanding of software development to interpret technical documentation and collaborate effectively with engineers.
- Experience with bug tracking and test management tools such as Jira or TestRail, as well as version control systems like Git.
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on producing high-quality bug reports.
Preferred Qualifications and Additional Skills
- Experience testing financial systems such as lending, banking, payments, or Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) platforms.
- Awareness of regulatory requirements in financial services.
- Exposure to message queue technologies like RabbitMQ or Kafka.
- Mobile testing experience, whether manual or automated, using tools such as Maestro, Appium, or Detox.
- Familiarity with Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines.
- Comfort using AI coding assistants like Claude Code or similar tools.
Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is someone who thinks critically about how systems can fail, not just how they should function. They are meticulous with numbers and prefer to prove results rather than make assumptions. They ask insightful questions, quickly adapt to new domains, and maintain structured documentation and communication. They thrive in cross-functional, consulting environments and are motivated to advance into a senior QA role within fintech over time.
