Software Quality Assurance (SQA)

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Engineer to join our Software Development team in Karachi. This full-time, onsite role involves ensuring the quality, reliability, and functionality of our software applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying defects, designing and executing comprehensive test cases, validating new features, and preparing technical documentation related to software. Collaboration with developers and cross-functional teams is essential to deliver high-quality software products within set timelines.

Key Responsibilities
- Review software requirements and understand functional specifications to ensure comprehensive test coverage.
- Create detailed test cases, test scenarios, and test plans tailored to project needs.
- Perform functional, regression, integration, system, and usability testing to identify issues early.
- Identify, document, and track bugs using appropriate bug-tracking tools, ensuring clear communication of defects.
- Re-test resolved issues and verify fixes before deployment to maintain software stability.
- Conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and end-to-end testing of software applications.
- Test APIs and database functionality as required to ensure backend reliability.
- Identify edge cases and potential issues that may not be immediately visible during standard testing.
- Verify that new features do not negatively impact existing functionality.
- Collaborate closely with developers to investigate and resolve defects efficiently.
- Maintain thorough documentation of testing activities, results, and technical reports.
- Participate in requirement discussions, providing feedback from a quality assurance perspective.
- Conduct exploratory testing to uncover unexpected issues and improve product robustness.
- Support pre-release and post-release quality checks to ensure smooth deployments.
- Continuously improve testing processes and quality standards to enhance overall product quality.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related field.
- 1 to 3 years of experience in Software Quality Assurance or Software Testing.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Proven experience in writing detailed test cases and test scenarios.
- Good knowledge of bug life cycle management and defect reporting.
- Familiarity with SQL and database testing concepts.
- Basic understanding of API testing and tools such as Postman.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to comprehend technical requirements and proactively identify potential issues.
- Effective communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience with automation testing tools and frameworks.
- Knowledge of Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or similar automation tools.
- Basic understanding of PHP/Laravel or web application development.
- Experience with Git or other version control systems.
- Familiarity with project and bug-tracking tools such as Jira or Trello.
- Knowledge of performance, security, or mobile application testing is a plus.

The ideal candidate is someone who thinks beyond the obvious, actively seeks potential problems, and understands features from both user and technical perspectives. They should possess strong logical and analytical thinking, be able to reproduce and clearly explain issues to developers, and take ownership of testing rather than merely following test cases. The ability to work effectively under deadlines without compromising quality and to question unclear requirements to identify gaps before development or release is essential.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for this role include test coverage and accuracy, quality of defect identification and reporting, defect leakage rate, effectiveness of regression testing, timely completion of testing assignments, quality of test documentation, collaboration with development and project teams, and reduction of recurring or preventable defects.

The position offers a competitive monthly salary ranging from Rs80,000 to Rs90,000. Working hours are from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with alternate Saturdays onsite at Muhammad Ali Society, Karachi.
