Aga Khan University Hospital is seeking a qualified Speech Therapist to join its Physiotherapy Department in Karachi, Pakistan. The successful candidate will provide specialized speech therapy services primarily through outreach and home-based care, supporting patients across various age groups. This role involves assessing patients in their home environments, designing and implementing individualized treatment plans, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes. The position emphasizes continuous professional development, adherence to hospital policies, and a commitment to patient safety, privacy, and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients in their home settings and develop individualized speech therapy treatment programs aimed at improving auditory comprehension, visual reading perception, oral motor strength and coordination, swallowing phases, verbal expression, word-finding skills, speech intelligibility, articulation, voice characteristics, written expression, gestured communication, and augmentative and alternative communication methods.
- Formulate and implement treatment and exercise plans to help patients achieve their therapeutic goals.
- Document patient assessments and progress notes in accordance with hospital policies.
- Educate and advise patients and their families on prevention strategies and condition management.
- Participate actively in in-house training programs, tutorials, and individual learning sessions to enhance professional skills.
- Maintain a focus on continuous professional development to ensure up-to-date knowledge and skills.
- Comply with departmental policies and organizational quality standards at all times.
- Uphold patient safety, privacy, and confidentiality in all interactions and procedures.
- Ensure the safe and competent use of speech therapy equipment and patient aids.
- Stay informed about new techniques and technologies relevant to speech therapy.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of speech and language therapy programs and services, particularly for outreach and home-based care.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech Audiology and Pathology from an HEC-recognized university or institute.
- Minimum of three years of relevant work experience, including at least one year in a tertiary care hospital setting, which must include completion of a House-Job.
- Successful completion of comprehensive reference checks.
