An established medium-sized footwear retailer and importer is looking for an experienced ‘Tax Manager’ based out of their Karachi office. The incumbent of this position is expected to lead timely tax reporting and all documentation processes in accordance with the requirements laid out in tax laws. The incumbent is expected to work closely with our Finance team to ensure thorough and seamless reporting. The ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications/characteristics:
- Minimum 3-4 years’ work experience with a strong command of both sales tax and income tax legislation that governs the operations of a retailer and importer – strong preference will be given for prior experience of managing sales tax compliance in footwear retail
- Evident knowledge of the latest best practices that are prevalent in the industry to establish strong internal controls and processes that ensure timely and legal compliance
- Evidence of a strong passion for taxation, including the ability to constantly keep oneself updated with all relevant changes that take place in tax legislation
- Must be able to demonstrate high levels of discipline and dedication – a strong work ethic is an essential requirement for this position, particularly when it comes to a systematic documentation of records
- Detailed knowledge of sales tax and withholding tax is a must for any applicant
- Strong appreciation of the need to extract maximum cooperation from stakeholders, both in relevant government departments and from product vendors, from a taxation perspective
- Additional knowledge of customs laws and customs data centered around the import of footwear and footwear accessories will be considered a strong asset
- Take ownership of developing a calendar for tax compliance in addition to defining detailed processes to eliminate oversight
- Strong references are essential for this position
