Staff Nurse

The Staff Nurse plays a vital role in delivering high-quality nursing care across various clinical settings. This position requires punctuality, adherence to schedules, and the ability to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans. The nurse is responsible for monitoring patients’ clinical conditions, administering medications and treatments safely, and collaborating effectively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team. Maintaining accurate and confidential records, adhering to infection control protocols, and participating in quality improvement initiatives are essential components of this role. Depending on the assigned clinical area, the nurse will perform specialized duties in critical care, emergency medicine, inpatient units, labor and delivery, operating and recovery rooms, or outpatient services.

Key Responsibilities

- Report on duty punctually and confirm assigned areas as per shift schedule.
- Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
- Monitor and document patients’ clinical conditions, vital signs, treatments, and responses to care.
- Evaluate patient condition after each intervention to assess care effectiveness, medication administration, and review nursing care plans each shift.
- Administer medications, IV therapy, and prescribed treatments safely and accurately.
- Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, pharmacists, and other healthcare team members.
- Follow infection prevention and control practices and standard precautions.
- Identify and report clinical incidents, therapeutic effects, near misses, safety risks, and adverse events.
- Maintain accurate, complete, timely, and confidential nursing records.
- Manage inventory by checking supplies, reporting deficiencies or malfunctions, and coordinating with Pharmacy for requisitions and receipt verification.
- Participate in quality improvement, clinical audits, accreditation activities, and patient safety initiatives.
- Comply with organizational policies, SOPs, clinical protocols, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
- Engage in mandatory training, competency assessments, drills, and professional development activities.
- Uphold professional conduct, confidentiality, accountability, teamwork, and respect for patients and colleagues.

Area-Specific Duties

- Critical Care: Provide specialized care to critically ill patients, monitor vital signs and hemodynamic parameters, operate critical care equipment, administer high-alert medications, assist with airway management and resuscitation, and escalate clinical deterioration promptly.
- Emergency Medicine: Conduct rapid patient assessments and triage, prioritize care based on urgency, administer emergency treatments, assist in resuscitation and stabilization, monitor patients awaiting admission or transfer, and ensure timely documentation and handover.
- Inpatient Care: Deliver comprehensive nursing care, conduct routine and focused assessments, administer medications, coordinate investigations and discharge planning, educate patients and attendants, and assist physicians during rounds.
- Labor & Delivery: Provide nursing care during labor, delivery, and postpartum, monitor maternal and fetal conditions, assist with deliveries and emergency obstetric interventions, support newborn care and maternal bonding, and offer education and emotional support.
- Operating/Recovery Rooms: Prepare patients for surgery, ensure completion of pre-op checklists, monitor post-op vital signs and surgical sites, and watch for complications such as bleeding or cyanosis.
- Outpatient Services: Conduct initial nursing assessments, prepare patients for examinations and procedures, administer medications and treatments, assist healthcare professionals, provide patient education, and support patient flow and referrals.

- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor, consistent with knowledge and skills.
