Team Leader / Wildlife Ecologist (Chief Technical Advisor)

This position involves providing overall technical leadership and ensuring the seamless integration of all project outputs related to wildlife and biodiversity assessments. The successful candidate will oversee the development of the inception report, including the methodology, sampling design, survey protocols, and work plan. They will work closely with the Department to approve the sampling framework prior to the commencement of fieldwork. Regular reporting to the Department’s focal person or technical committee is essential, including the presentation of interim and final results. The role also requires conducting stakeholder consultations and facilitating capacity-building and training sessions for Department staff.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the technical aspects and integration of all project deliverables to ensure consistency and quality.
- Develop and finalize the inception report covering methodology, sampling design, survey protocols, and work plan.
- Collaborate with the Department to approve the sampling framework before field activities begin.
- Provide regular updates and detailed reports to the Department’s focal person or technical committee, including presenting interim and final findings.
- Conduct stakeholder consultations as outlined in section 3.7 of the project plan.
- Organize and deliver capacity-building and training programs for Department staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Required Qualifications

- PhD, MPhil, or MS degree in Wildlife Sciences, Zoology, Ecology, Forestry, Conservation Biology, or a closely related field.
- A minimum of 15 years of relevant professional or research experience.
- Proven expertise in conducting wildlife surveys and conservation planning.
- Experience managing or contributing to large-scale biodiversity or wildlife assessments.
