Technical Engineer – Power Systems & Transmission Planning

POWER-tek Global is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transmission Planning & Power Systems Engineer / Project Manager to join their team in Lahore, Pakistan. The successful candidate will play a critical role in power-system planning, transmission and distribution studies, grid interconnection, system analysis, and utility consulting projects. This full-time position requires a professional with over 10 years of expertise in power systems engineering, particularly in transmission planning, load flow, short-circuit and stability studies, PSS/E modeling, demand forecasting, renewable integration, and power-system operations. Experience in managing multidisciplinary engineering projects and collaborating with electric utilities is essential. Candidates must be currently based in Lahore or willing to relocate.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support transmission and distribution system planning, including network expansion, system constraints analysis, reliability assessments, and long-term infrastructure planning.
- Perform and review load flow, short-circuit, transient/dynamic stability, contingency, and voltage/reactive power studies.
- Develop and analyze PSS/E-based power-system models and simulations for transmission planning and grid interconnection.
- Conduct generation and renewable energy integration studies, assessing impacts from solar, wind, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and other resources.
- Support grid interconnection studies and evaluate proposed generation, transmission, and distribution projects.
- Perform demand and energy forecasting, contributing to Power Acquisition Plans, business plans, and capital investment programs.
- Analyze transmission system constraints and recommend technically sound network reinforcement and expansion solutions.
- Prepare and review technical reports, feasibility studies, system studies, PC-1/project documentation, and engineering recommendations.
- Investigate system disturbances, outages, protection operations, and network performance as needed.
- Conduct root-cause analysis, blackout investigations, contingency assessments, and grid resilience studies.
- Evaluate protection, SCADA, automation, control, and operational requirements related to power-system planning and reliability.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, manage technical deliverables, schedules, client requirements, and project documentation.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations effectively to clients, utility stakeholders, project teams, and senior management.
- Participate in client meetings, technical presentations, workshops, inspections, and stakeholder coordination.
- Review technical data, drawings, network information, equipment specifications, and utility documentation.
- Support proposal development, technical methodology preparation, resource planning, and project execution.
- Ensure engineering deliverables comply with utility standards, Grid/Distribution Codes, Commercial Codes, and relevant industry requirements.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or Power Engineering.
- Master’s degree in Power Systems, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience in power systems, transmission planning, distribution planning, utility engineering, or power-system consulting.
- Strong practical experience with PSS/E is mandatory.
- Proven expertise in transmission system planning, load flow analysis, short-circuit analysis, stability studies, contingency analysis, grid interconnection studies, generation/renewable integration, and demand forecasting.
- Experience working with electric utilities, transmission systems, distribution networks, or power-system consulting projects.
- Solid understanding of power-system operation, reliability, protection, and grid planning principles.
- Demonstrated technical project management and multidisciplinary team coordination skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Must be currently based in Lahore, Pakistan, or willing to relocate.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience with ETAP, MATLAB, PSCAD, PowerFactory, SCADA/EMS, PLC and power-system automation, protection and relay systems, renewable-energy integration, BESS, transmission and distribution planning software, and advanced data analysis tools is advantageous. Candidates with backgrounds in utility transmission and distribution planning, renewable generation interconnection (solar, wind, BESS), power-system master planning, grid modernization, blackout investigations, root-cause analysis, reliability studies, utility O&M assessment, Power Acquisition Planning, capital improvement planning, Grid/Distribution Code compliance, and international utility consulting will be highly regarded.

The role may also involve managing technical projects from initiation to completion, including developing work plans, coordinating teams, managing client communications, reviewing engineering deliverables, tracking project progress, leading technical meetings, and ensuring quality and schedule compliance.

Compensation
Monthly salary ranges from Rs100,000 to Rs150,000. This is an in-person role based in Lahore, Pakistan.
