The AccTax Company Inc. is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Tax & Accounting Associate Trainee / Staff Accountant to support its expanding Canadian accounting practice and daily business operations. This fully remote role offers flexibility to work from home in Pakistan with occasional in-person meetings in Lahore. The successful candidate will be on the ACCA or CA qualification path, either part-qualified or a fresh affiliate, possessing foundational experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or finance. The role involves serving Canadian clients and includes comprehensive training on Canadian accounting systems, payroll, GST/HST, and corporate and personal tax requirements. Candidates with prior knowledge of US tax laws, IRS compliance, or US bookkeeping are considered exceptional assets. This position demands strong attention to detail, high digital proficiency, and the ability to work independently with absolute accuracy and confidentiality. The individual will be responsible for supporting and managing a small team of one, helping to oversee smooth workflows and ensuring high-quality deliverables. The role emphasizes cloud bookkeeping, bank and ledger reconciliations, tax and payroll support, documentation management, client communications, and continuous learning to master Canadian tax frameworks and cloud technologies.
Responsibilities

  • Perform cloud bookkeeping by entering, processing, and accurately categorizing daily financial transactions using QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Conduct regular bank and credit card reconciliations, investigate any discrepancies, and ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial data.
  • Support tax and payroll activities including organizing and maintaining structured digital records for Canadian client bookkeeping, corporate (T2) and personal (T1) tax files, GST/HST returns, and payroll processing.
  • Maintain and organize secure cloud-based electronic client files, invoices, source documents, and supporting receipts to ensure orderly documentation management.
  • Draft professional and clear correspondence in English to clients regarding missing documentation, routine inquiries, and communications related to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
  • Track accounts receivable and payable by monitoring customer payments, following up on outstanding invoices, and assisting with vendor communications such as purchase orders and quotations.
  • Prepare financial summaries, spreadsheets, and basic reports, while maintaining clear personal task lists and providing regular updates to management via virtual meetings.
  • Effectively manage a small team member by overseeing their workload, providing guidance, and ensuring timely task completion while fostering a productive remote working environment.
  • Engage actively with training modules and resources to develop mastery in Canadian accounting frameworks, tax compliance rules, and modern cloud technologies.
  • Maintain a high level of digital proficiency with QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, and advanced MS Excel/Google Sheets features including pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions.
  • Collaborate productively using remote communication tools such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and WhatsApp Business, ensuring responsiveness and clear communication.
  • Uphold confidentiality, accuracy, and professional standards in all accounting activities and client interactions.
  • Support continuous process improvements by suggesting enhancements in bookkeeping, reconciliation, and reporting procedures.
