Trainee

This role involves managing a broad spectrum of legal and compliance responsibilities to support the company’s commercial and regulatory needs. The candidate will be responsible for drafting and negotiating various contracts, ensuring adherence to relevant laws and regulations, assessing legal risks, and collaborating with both internal teams and external stakeholders to maintain compliance and mitigate risks. The position requires a proactive approach to legal research and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal teams.

Key Responsibilities

Contract Management & Legal Drafting:
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts including NDAs, vendor agreements, marketing and promotional contracts, and supply chain agreements to protect the company’s interests. Maintain and manage the contract repository using a Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) tool. Provide legal opinions and guidance regarding contractual obligations and potential risks.

Compliance & Regulatory Affairs:
Ensure compliance with applicable laws such as the Legal Metrology Act, FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India), ASCI (Advertising Standards Council of India), Privacy, and Consumer Protection laws. Advise on product labeling, packaging, marketing communications, and ethical promotion to ensure all activities align with food and consumer protection regulations. Keep internal stakeholders informed about amendments and new legal developments that impact business operations.

Risk Assessment & Legal Research:
Conduct thorough legal risk assessments related to products, agreements, and advertising to minimize business risks and liabilities. Perform ongoing legal research on industry developments, case laws, and regulatory updates. Assist in the preparation of legal reports and compliance checklists to support decision-making.

Internal & External Stakeholder Coordination:
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams such as Marketing, Research & Development, Quality Assurance, Finance, and Sales to ensure compliance across business activities. Liaise with external legal counsel, regulatory bodies, and industry associations on various legal matters. Organize and conduct awareness and training sessions for internal teams to enhance understanding of legal and compliance requirements.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university.
- Proven experience in contract drafting, review, and negotiation, preferably within a corporate or FMCG environment.
- Strong knowledge of Indian regulatory frameworks including Legal Metrology, FSSAI, ASCI, and consumer protection laws.
- Excellent legal research and risk assessment skills.
- Ability to communicate legal concepts clearly and effectively to non-legal stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) tools or similar contract management software.
