Transmission Field Engineer

This role focuses on ensuring the continuous availability and optimal performance of the core Transmission network, specifically OTN and SDH/PTN technologies. The incumbent will be responsible for executing preventive maintenance activities, conducting site visits to identify environmental or power-related issues, and coordinating with field teams to resolve any problems. The position demands proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of long-haul optical transmission networks to minimize downtime and maintain high-quality service standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Ensure core Transmission (OTN & SDH/PTN) network availability by taking proactive measures to maintain network health.
- Execute preventive maintenance (PM) as per schedule, including site visits to identify and escalate environmental or power-related issues following established procedures.
- Operate and maintain long-haul optical transmission networks, covering OTN, SDH, and PTN equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as equipment cleaning, verifying patch cord quality and physical connectivity, and conducting power and redundancy checks on equipment.
- Compile monthly reports detailing the status of all assigned sites and coordinate with Field Operations teams to resolve outstanding issues.
- Analyze, diagnose, and rectify hardware and software problems related to the transport network to reduce network downtime.
- Ensure 24/7 availability for fault resolution, including arranging hardware in coordination with the warehouse, conducting site visits, and providing onsite support.
- Conduct networking audits of preventive maintenance performed by technicians and field teams to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Audit newly installed equipment and address any quality issues prior to service cutover.
- Execute connectivity tasks involving patch cords, Ethernet cables, and power cables according to standards during network expansions or fault repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of hardware and spares within the assigned region and manage the submission of faulty hardware to the warehouse along with fault reports.

Required Qualifications

- Proven experience in the operation and maintenance of optical transmission networks, specifically OTN, SDH, and PTN technologies.
- Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures and network fault diagnosis.
- Ability to perform site inspections and escalate environmental or power-related issues effectively.
- Experience in coordinating with field operations and warehouse teams for hardware management and fault resolution.
- Proficient in compiling technical reports and maintaining detailed records.
- Availability to provide 24/7 support for network fault resolution.
- Familiarity with networking audit processes and quality assurance standards.
