The Accounting Manager – UK role is a full-time, hybrid position based in Karachi, offering flexibility to work partially from home. This role involves managing a portfolio of UK-based SME and self-employed clients, overseeing bookkeeping, accounts preparation, and tax compliance. The manager will review financial statements, prepare and review UK tax returns, manage deadlines, and ensure all work complies with UK accounting and tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Client & Relationship Management:
- Serve as the primary contact for key clients, maintaining high service standards.
- Manage client communications, respond to queries, and oversee onboarding and offboarding processes.
- Review accounts, corporation tax returns, and Self Assessment tax returns prior to submission.
Team Leadership & Workflow Oversight:
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior and senior accounting staff.
- Review team outputs and provide training to ensure technical accuracy and professional standards.
- Oversee capacity planning, job allocation, and workload balancing across the team.
Practice Operations & Process Improvement:
- Maintain and enhance internal processes, workflows, and systems to maximize efficiency.
- Ensure timely delivery of client work in line with deadlines and internal service level agreements (SLAs).
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to productivity, turnaround times, and quality.
- Support the implementation and optimization of accounting software and practice management tools.
Required Qualifications:
- ACCA/ACA qualified (or equivalent) with strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP, corporation tax, and personal tax for SMEs and self-employed clients.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in a UK accounting practice, including managing staff and overseeing workflows remotely.
- Excellent English communication skills (C1 level or above), essential for direct client interaction in the UK.
- Proven leadership abilities in mentoring teams, reviewing work, allocating tasks, and balancing workloads.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple client deadlines and competing priorities effectively.
- Proficiency in cloud accounting and practice management software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Iris Elements, and Taxfiler, along with advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH).
- Demonstrated track record of building strong client relationships and resolving issues to maintain high service standards.
- Thorough understanding of compliance requirements related to UK GAAP, Companies House, and HMRC.
