UN Women Pakistan Country Office in Islamabad offers an internship opportunity designed to provide practical exposure to programme implementation within the United Nations system. The intern will support various programme teams by contributing to research, documentation, coordination, monitoring, communications, and other activities related to advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in Pakistan. This role offers hands-on experience in supporting the effective delivery of UN Women’s priorities across a diverse portfolio of initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day technical and administrative support to assigned programme teams across multiple projects and thematic areas.
- Compile, organize, and maintain programme-related information, records, trackers, presentations, and other working documents.
- Conduct desk research and analysis on topics such as gender equality, women’s empowerment, leadership, economic empowerment, ending violence against women, governance, peace, and security.
- Assist in preparing background notes, briefs, talking points, meeting materials, presentations, minutes, and summaries for programme activities.
- Support monitoring and documentation efforts, including data collection and organization of outputs, results, and supporting evidence.
- Coordinate and follow up on meetings, consultations, workshops, trainings, events, and other programme activities, including agenda preparation and record-keeping.
- Assist in the preparation, formatting, and quality review of programme documents and reports in line with UN Women standards.
- Compile inputs from programme teams and partners for periodic reporting, programme updates, donor reports, and management information.
- Support the development and organization of communication and visibility materials such as success stories, human-interest stories, and event summaries.
- Maintain electronic programme files, ensuring systematic organization and accessibility.
- Facilitate coordination and information exchange with internal teams, implementing partners, and other stakeholders under supervision.
- Undertake additional programme-related tasks as required to support effective implementation of UN Women activities.
Required Qualifications
- University studies in gender studies, international development, public policy, social sciences, political science, economics, public administration, communications, business administration, development studies, international relations, or a related field.
- Must meet one of the following: currently enrolled in a graduate programme; enrolled in the final academic year of a bachelor’s degree; graduated within the last two years; or enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship programme linked to a degree.
- Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
- Strong research, analytical, and information-gathering skills.
- Good written and oral communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to organize information, maintain accurate records, and manage multiple tasks within deadlines.
- Interest in gender equality, women’s rights, development, or related areas.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment with strong attention to detail.
