Urdu Language Expert

In this hourly, remote contractor position, you will serve as an Urdu Language Specialist (Subject Matter Expert) responsible for reviewing AI-generated Urdu content and creating high-quality reference materials. Your role involves evaluating language quality and reasoning, providing precise written feedback, and ensuring outputs meet standards for accuracy, fluency, grammar, spelling, tone, cultural appropriateness, and prompt adherence. You will identify errors such as mistranslations, ambiguity, register inconsistencies (formal vs. informal), right-to-left script formatting issues, and logical flaws. Fact-checking claims and producing high-quality rewrites and model answers that exemplify best practices in Urdu writing are key components of this role. Additionally, you will rate and compare multiple AI responses based on correctness and overall quality.

Your expertise in Urdu will directly contribute to enhancing the naturalness, reliability, cultural accuracy, and clarity of AI-generated Urdu language outputs.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop AI Training Content by creating prompts and gold-standard Urdu answers across diverse domains such as general knowledge, customer support, education, conversational writing, translation, localization, and culturally sensitive topics.
- Optimize AI Performance through evaluation and ranking of AI outputs, focusing on fluency, correctness, tone alignment, register consistency, meaning preservation, right-to-left/script formatting, and cultural relevance.
- Ensure Model Integrity by detecting unsafe or misleading content, factual inaccuracies, bias, mistranslations, ambiguity, policy-risk language, and culturally inappropriate phrasing. Validate the reliability of outputs across different use cases.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Linguistics, Urdu Literature, English Literature, Communications, Journalism, Translation, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Native or near-native proficiency in Urdu with strong reading and writing skills.
- Strong professional proficiency in English (minimum C1 level) to accurately follow guidelines and provide detailed feedback in English.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in writing, editing, localization, translation, content quality assurance, journalism, education, or related language-focused roles.
- Deep understanding of Urdu grammar, spelling conventions, punctuation, Nastaliq/script norms, right-to-left formatting, tone, and style, with the ability to clearly explain errors and corrections.
- Comfortable working with multiple Urdu registers, including formal/literary Urdu, conversational Urdu, Pakistan Urdu, India Urdu, and Urdu-English code-switching, adapting to audience and project needs.
- Exceptional attention to detail in identifying subtle meaning shifts, awkward literal translations, incorrect gender or verb agreement, hallucinated claims, unnatural Persianized/Arabicized wording, and culturally mismatched phrasing.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and capable of delivering consistent quality in a remote, hourly contractor workflow across various time zones.
