Vim Specialist

In this hourly, remote contractor position, you will serve as a Vim Specialist (Subject Matter Expert) responsible for creating realistic and challenging computer-based tasks centered around Vim and related terminal text-editing workflows. Your role involves designing practical Vim tasks, documenting them clearly using SuperAnnotate, ensuring your environment supports the task requirements, and recording yourself performing these tasks on your computer. These tasks will help train advanced AI models to better understand how users interact with Vim for text editing and developer workflows.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and design practical Vim tasks that cover a range of functions such as opening and editing files, navigating text, using different modes, search and replace, macros, buffers, splits, registers, configuration, plugins, terminal workflows, coding edits, and documentation edits.
- Document each task clearly and thoroughly in SuperAnnotate to ensure accuracy and usability.
- Prepare your setup to support each task, including having Vim installed, files and references ready, and terminal access configured.
- Record your screen while executing the tasks to provide clear examples of real-world Vim usage.
- Collaborate remotely with the project team to ensure task quality and consistency.
- Maintain high attention to detail in task preparation, execution, and recording to produce reliable training data.
- Work independently and manage your time effectively in a remote, hourly contractor role that may involve coordination across different time zones.

Required Qualifications
- Proven hands-on experience using Vim for text editing, code editing, search and replace, terminal workflows, configuration, or developer productivity tasks.
- Proficiency in English at B2 level or higher to comprehend project instructions, document tasks clearly, and communicate effectively with the team.
- Comfortable using computers, terminals, files, folders, keyboard-driven workflows, configuration files, and recording software.
- Ability to design realistic and challenging Vim tasks that reflect actual use cases in coding, documentation, text editing, system administration, or developer workflows.
- Strong understanding of Vim fundamentals including normal, insert, and visual modes; motions; operators; search and substitution; buffers; windows; tabs; registers; macros; and configuration.
- Capability to ensure your technical setup supports task requirements, including having Vim installed and all necessary files and references prepared before recording.
- Exceptional attention to detail when preparing tasks, executing workflows, and verifying that recordings are complete and clear.
- Self-motivated, reliable, and able to consistently deliver high-quality work in a remote, hourly contractor setting.
