Relief International (RI), a global non-profit organization working across 15 countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, is seeking a Wellbeing Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Assistant to join its team in Pakistan. This role supports the delivery of safe, welcoming, and accessible mental health and psychosocial services at the assigned RISE wellbeing center and during community or home-based activities. The Assistant works under the supervision of the Wellbeing Centre MHPSS Officer, providing practical support, Psychological First Aid (PFA) after training, activity preparation, and confidential service navigation. The position is critical in helping participants access appropriate support while maintaining professional boundaries, with clinical decisions reserved for qualified practitioners. This is a rolling vacancy and will be filled once a suitable candidate is identified.
Key Responsibilities
Welcoming, Accessible and Confidential Services: Greet participants respectfully, explain available services and feedback mechanisms, and facilitate orderly reception without requiring individuals to disclose sensitive information publicly. Support inclusive participation for women, girls, persons with specific needs, female-headed households, and those experiencing psychosocial distress. Ensure voluntary participation and confidentiality are clearly communicated, assisting with consent and child assent procedures as needed. Prepare private spaces and materials, identifying any environmental or safeguarding concerns before sessions.
Practical Psychosocial and Activity Support: Provide Psychological First Aid and basic practical support only after completing approved training and within demonstrated competence. Assist the Officer with structured group and community wellbeing activities, following session plans and avoiding requests for participants to recount traumatic experiences. Support outreach and home-based visits with proper consent and safety arrangements, maintaining professional boundaries and culturally appropriate conduct. The role does not involve diagnosing, independent counseling, prescribing medication, or making clinical decisions.
Service Navigation and Immediate Escalation: Help participants understand appointment logistics and consent-based referrals approved by qualified staff. Recognize warning signs of severe distress or safety concerns and promptly notify the Officer or designated clinical focal point. Follow established escalation pathways and emergency procedures without attempting to manage clinical crises independently. Assist with safe follow-up and escalate missed appointments or access barriers for further review.
Records, Accountability and Safeguarding: Maintain accurate records of attendance, appointments, activities, and supplies using approved tools and coded identifiers. Protect participant confidentiality by restricting access to sensitive information and following secure storage procedures. Facilitate accessible feedback options, relay routine concerns, and report safeguarding allegations promptly through designated channels without conducting investigations. Support independent monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) activities while ensuring services are never conditional on surveys or public disclosure.
Teamwork, Quality and Professional Conduct: Participate in supervision, training, and team reviews, seeking guidance when tasks exceed competence. Maintain professional boundaries, adhere to RI safeguarding and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse policies, and report any misconduct or data breaches. Monitor center readiness, report supply shortages, and comply with field travel, infection prevention, and security protocols. Provide activity updates and perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the role.
Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Public Health, or a related social or health discipline is essential. Candidates should have at least two years of relevant experience in community, psychosocial, health, or protection programs, including respectful engagement with vulnerable populations. Completion of approved PFA and safeguarding training with demonstrated practical competencies is required. Fluency in Pashto, Baluchi, Urdu, and a local language relevant to the assigned district is necessary, along with basic English reading and reporting skills. Strong record-keeping abilities, basic computer literacy, sound confidentiality practices, and willingness to travel within the district are also required.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience supporting wellbeing centers, community groups, adolescents, caregivers, or persons with disabilities is desirable. Prior PFA training, familiarity with referral procedures, and experience using digital attendance or service-tracking tools are advantageous.
