AI Engineer (PhD Required)

Pixalate is seeking a highly skilled AI Engineer with a PhD to join our remote team in Pakistan. This role offers a unique opportunity to transform cutting-edge AI research into impactful production systems that safeguard the digital ecosystem. You will work alongside our accomplished Research team, known for uncovering over $100 million in ad fraud and national security threats. The position provides autonomy to pursue innovative research in agentic AI systems, test-time compute optimization, and multimodal understanding, with the chance to see your work deployed at scale within months.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and implement multi-agent architectures for autonomous fraud detection and analysis.
- Develop advanced agent coordination systems using frameworks such as LangChain, AutoGen, or custom-built solutions.
- Create AI agents integrated with tools capable of complex reasoning and decision-making.
- Research and develop novel approaches to agent safety and alignment in production environments.
- Implement state-of-the-art reasoning systems inspired by recent breakthroughs like o1 and DeepSeek-R1.
- Optimize inference-time compute allocation for complex analytical tasks.
- Develop chain-of-thought and verification mechanisms to support high-stakes decision-making.
- Build advanced multimodal models for analyzing video, image, text, and behavioral data.
- Design and implement sophisticated Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures.
- Develop high-performance vector databases and hybrid search systems.
- Create advanced chunking strategies and semantic understanding for context-aware retrieval of complex documents.
- Investigate cross-modal learning techniques for fraud pattern detection.

Required Qualifications

- PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or a related field, or an exceptional research track record.
- Published research in peer-reviewed venues demonstrating expertise in large language models, transformer architectures, agentic AI, autonomous systems, multi-agent coordination, multimodal learning, or computer vision.
- Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks, preferably PyTorch, with experience in TensorFlow.
- Advanced knowledge of modern AI frameworks such as LangChain, Hugging Face Transformers, and Ray.
- Experience in agent development, orchestration, RAG systems, vector databases, distributed training frameworks, and GPU optimization.
- Strong understanding of transformer architectures, attention mechanisms, reinforcement learning, reward modeling, neural architecture search, AutoML, MLOps, and production ML systems.
- Proven track record of novel algorithm development and innovation.
- Experience with large-scale experimentation, ablation studies, and research tools including Weights & Biases, MLflow, and TensorBoard.
- Solid theoretical foundation in optimization, statistics, and linear algebra.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

- Experience in fraud detection, cybersecurity, or trust and safety applications.
- Contributions to open-source AI projects.
- Industry research experience at leading AI labs such as DeepMind, OpenAI, or FAIR.
- Demonstrated ability to translate research into production systems.
- Familiarity with Mixture of Experts (MoE) architectures, constitutional AI, alignment techniques, efficient inference optimization (quantization, distillation), and real-time streaming ML systems.
