Darmaan Welfare Foundation

Darmaan Welfare Foundation – DWF was established in 2011 by a group of young and energetic people who were highly motivated and committed for contributing their time, skills and energies for the development and empowerment of socially disadvantaged and vulnerable communities in Pakistan and addressing poverty issues and gender based discriminations.

Darmaan means “Cure” in Urdu, a language indigenous to Pakistan. After spending time in Kurram Agency from 1970s and onwards as a resident, Darmaan`s founder “Engineer Malik Rashid Ahmed khan” recognized the need for a system of development that was tailored to individual communities, and therefore more relevant. His unconventional model combines education and development goals in a “Ten year non-formal education program,” which seeks to help rural communities develop their own localized strategies for development.
