To enhance our team, we are seeking a highly experienced AAPC-certified Medical Coder who can independently ensure coding accuracy and compliance while providing expert guidance to our Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) and clinical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Review clinical documentation thoroughly and assign precise codes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and Evaluation and Management (E/M) coding standards.
- Specialize in behavioral health and psychiatry coding, demonstrating strong attention to detail.
- Identify and resolve coding issues such as under-coding, over-coding, missing codes, incorrect modifiers, and documentation gaps.
- Ensure compliance with National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits, payer-specific guidelines, Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance requirements.
- Collaborate closely with RCM and clinical teams to address coding discrepancies and improve documentation quality.
- Provide coding guidance and support to team members when discrepancies or questions arise.
- Stay current with U.S. healthcare coding regulations, compliance standards, and industry best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Active AAPC certification, with Certified Professional Coder (CPC) designation strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in U.S. healthcare medical coding.
- Demonstrated expertise in behavioral health and psychiatry coding.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and E/M coding systems.
- Familiarity with payer requirements, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing.
- Understanding of compliance standards, NCCI edits, and documentation improvement initiatives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work full-time and collaborate effectively with remote teams.
