Shift Supervisor – Job Description
Job Title: Shift Supervisor
Reporting to: Café Manager
Purpose:
To interact with and create lasting, genuine relationships with every guest, encouraging and earning their loyalty and repeat business and maintain a high level of service by being a leader for the baristas on shift.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Guest Service:
• Greet all guests with a friendly smile
• Demonstrating passion and confidence for the Second Cup Brand
• Honor guests by providing quick, friendly and genuine service
• Generates guest satisfaction; responds appropriately to guest concerns.
Product Quality
• Ensures that Baristas maintain a high level of Second Cup standards for all products preparation.
• Ensures that Baristas follows all Second Cup standard recipes at all times
• Educates guests on Second Cup products and services
Teamwork
• Communicates with coworkers & management to solve issues and prove quality & service
• Always ready to assist baristas during peak business times
• Works with baristas and management to effectively implement positive change
• Contributes to a positive work environment
• Assists in the opening and/or closing of the café when required.
Cash Handling
• Ensures all Baristas are following cash handling procedures during shifts
• Follow business procedures for handling voids and cash handling mistakes
• End of shift reconciliation of cash and register records
Job Challenges:
• Understanding features and benefits of all Second Cup products
• Memorizing drink recipes
• Face to face guest complaint issues
• Understand and troubleshoot any equipment issues
• Maintaining coffee freshness standards while also controlling waste
• Suggestive selling
• Multi-tasking (e.g. cleaning, restocking, deliveries with constant guest interactions)
• Coach, train and assist Baristas during any shifts
• Work varied hours/days based on café requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Guest service skills (i.e. positive, caring attitude)
• Strong teamwork skills
• Cash handling, retail or food service experience preferred
• Product knowledge
• Selling Skills
• Handle multiple tasks at one time
• Maintain a positive morale and professional attitude at all times
