1. Coordinates and supports the pharmacy department's quality improvement, medication, and patient safety agenda to ensure that patients whom we serve receive safe and effective pharmaceutical care consistent with best practices and standards of care.
  2. Performs medication error, near miss analysis, trending, and reporting of medication-related events on monthly basis.
  3. Quarterly presentation/briefing on KPIs trends to staff and management
  4. Periodic review of KPIs to maintain the most vital ones on the dashboard that aim to gauge and improve productivity & efficiency (with wastage reduction), safety, and quality of services
  5. Review new products being added to the inventory for safety, storage, price, and use-related risks and proactively acts to avert errors. Simultaneously educate staff on actions recommended in this regards
  6. Design and continually update competency-based checklists and simulation models for staff training on error-prone processes such as appropriateness review, medicine filling, checking, preparation, dispensing, etc.
  7. Use data and trends for regular staff training and education on priority issues
  8. Ensure that mock drills are conducted annually on risky processes such as aseptic techniques, cytotoxic/chemical spills, and hazardous waste disposal management, etc.
  9. Conduct doctor's and nurses’ training on medication safety as and when required
  10. Conduct regular audits of all pharmacy satellites/outlets (on campus and externally) and monitor compliance to set criteria for good pharmacy practices and ISO/JCIA
  11. Conduct periodic audits of clinical areas for safe storage, prescribing and use of medications and share results with P&TC, and nursing management for improvement
  12. Directly assists the Chief of Pharmacy and manager in audit preparations (ISO, JCIA, and others as applicable). Champions the MMU, relevant standards of IPSG (High alert meds), FMS, and QPS and ensure their continued implementation and compliance
  13. Maintain knowledge about core pharmacy functions like appropriateness review, intervention, prescription charging, filling, labeling, checking, preparation, and dispensation of medications and surgical. In addition to its expiry and inventory management and recalls etc.
  14. Develop, review, and revise departmental policies, procedures, forms, and related documents ensuring compliance with regulatory as well as certification/accreditation requirements like that of ISO, and JCIA.
  15. Collaborates with physicians and nursing partners in order to implement improvement projects.
  16. Serve as a liaison between the pharmacy department, P&TC, hospital risk management, and other related committees.
  17.  In collaboration with the departmental safety coordinator, devise a strategy so that workplace hazards and safety risks are identified, reported, and mitigated
  18. Conduct at least 1 FMEA or quality/patient safety improvement project per year on mutually decided priority areas/processes
  19. Serve as workplace quality and safety champion and performs other related duties as required.
